Is The Internet Bad For Your Health?

Is The Internet Bad For Your Health?

For anyone who knows me, it’s no secret that I’m not a big fan of social media. I've never really connected with it or understood the hype. I only use it for my business because I know it can help me reach others. But honestly, I find it a bit strange how often I catch myself checking my own posts after I post them. If that makes sense, it almost feels like running up to a mirror every hour—which, let’s face it, I probably unconsciously already do. But still, it’s odd.

It’s definitely less detrimental to my mental and physical health to stare at a mirror than to look at someone with a "perfect lifestyle" and "perfect body", but that’s just my opinion.

Another thing that’s hard for me to swallow is the sheer amount of questionable fitness advice out there. It seems like every other post is from either a personal trainer or, even worse, an unqualified influencer spreading unrealistic body ideals or misleading information.

A good example of this is when I watched a guy called Danny Matranga post a video on someone called Misscarriejune the other day. She has 4.5 million followers and was posting that standard creatine is useless, claiming you need to buy her "MB Creatine Plus". What I like about Danny’s video is that he gives solid information about standard creatine and doesn’t say her supplement is rubbish or won’t work; instead, he points out that these people care more about money than just directing people to what a century's worth of evidence shows about one of the best supplements you could buy. There’s a lot more in this clip, so I’m always happy to share if anyone's interested.

To me, the easiest way to spot the good sources is by looking at those who provide plenty of context, explain things from multiple perspectives, and back everything up with facts—and not just in the hopes of selling you something.

The reason I’m making this post is to share some of my top social media channels for fitness advice. They provide context on everything and really help people with good, solid advice.

My Top 3 Channels:

  1. Mind Pump Media – Honestly, try to find something bad on there—amazing channel, definitely deserves a bigger following.

  2. Danny Matranga – As mentioned above, brilliant.

  3. Tom Morrison – A massive influence on me and the reason I’m so into mobility—brilliant channel.

There are plenty more, but if you have any good channels, please share!
